Natural Remedies

As I thought about my memories in my last post, my mind drifted to some of the natural remedies we used when I was growing up.  Some were very simple, such as making a plaster of baking soda and water to put on a wasp sting or ant bite.  My husband’s family would cut an onion in half and apply it to the bite!  Both methods do work and we still use them today.  (Supposedly a chaw of tobacco is very effective!)  At my Grandpa’s home I remember a bottle that was filled with small twigs of cedar and their tiny blue berries, then filled with kerosene.  I’m not sure exactly what it was used for – I need to ask my mother (now 90 years old) to get my story straight!  The best and most widely used remedy, though, was aloe vera.  It is a wonderful plant with many, many uses.  My husband and I have been married 39 years and I think we’ve always had some growing either in a pot or bed that was handy to reach.  Many of the products on this site contain this versatile ingredient.  It's healing qualities take great care of your skin.  Until next time……  ECB
